These are presented in two ways: either you have to combine characters together, switching controls between them to progress or figure out how to overcome various obstacles using your skill and imagination. Thomas Was Alone walks the line between pure platformer and puzzle-solver. It's a great example of how you don't necessarily need amazing graphics to generate an absorbing atmosphere. This narration is the only contact that you have with the characters, and really helps bring them to life with plenty of gentle humor thrown in. It describes what Thomas and his pals are thinking, and how they feel about each other. At first it's not very complicated, and although the later levels become tortuous, the infinite lives and checkpoints mean that it's never too hard to progress.Ī voiceover narrates the story of Thomas Was Alone as you progress through the game. You can watch that teaser below.There are more than 100 levels of increasing difficulty in Thomas Was Alone, in which you'll need to combine the different talents of the angular heroes in order to progress. "Rocket League" fits that bill in a similar fashion, and it's also a proven winner on other consoles, meaning it's easy to recommend before it's even released.įor the Nintendo Switch version, "Rocket League" maker Psyonix created some new cars themed after Nintendo's most famous mascots, including Mario, Luigi, and Samus Aran of "Metroid" fame - all three of these cars are featured in Psyonix's new teaser for the game, which it released on Wednesday night. Two of the biggest hits on the Nintendo Switch currently, "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" and "Splatoon 2," encourage people to play with and against each other, thereby taking advantage of the Nintendo Switch's unique multiplayer capabilities. Of course, this is understandable since the console only launched about six months ago, but the addition of "Rocket League" only makes the Switch a better sell. Though most people have praised the Switch ( myself included), one of the biggest sticking points with critics has been its limited roster of must-have games.
